How to Host a Seafood Boil

This past weekend we hosted our second summer seafood boil and invited a new set of California friends to take in this southern tradition! (You can read about last year’s boil here).

Cooked seafood at seafood boil and all the fixings

Seafood boils are one of my favorite parties to host, and we do it at least once a year.  You’ll need one of these:

And some freezer paper.

What’s not to love about a seafood boil? The food is delicious, the cleanup easy, and the fixin’s few!

Seafood Boil Shopping ListFor beverages, we decided to serve beer, wine, cucumber water, strawberry mojitos, and — for the daring — tequila shots. I did not partake in the tequila, but I loved the set up! And, it was my cute husband’s idea. We set the tequila on ice in a large, clear bowl and then placed salt-rimmed shot glasses and lime slices on the ice.

I love to get crafty and use any party we have as an excuse to decorate and create fun little touches. For this party, I personalized mason jars for each guest. To make these tags, I simply cut black card stock from Michael’s into strips and wrote guest names with a chalk marker. The end result looks just like a little chalk board! I tied the tags to the mason jars with black and white ribbon and baker’s twine I had on hand and finished off the look with mismatched straws.

The pups got tags, too!

Instead of ice in my wine bucket, I froze water balloons for a touch of whimsy and color! Note: make sure to do this the day before the party, as it takes the balloons a LONG time to freeze.

We had a blast hanging out with our new California friends!

Kudos to the chef… he did an awesome job!

Yes, it was hot over in his little boiling area.
