New on My Bucket List: A Northern Lights Norway Cruise

Thanks to Hurtigruten Cruises for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to add another item to my bucket list! Opinions are 100% mine. I hope you’ll click on the sponsored links because this cruise sounds absolutely amazing!

When Tom and I first became empty nesters, we decided that we wanted adventure in our everyday lives as well as on special vacations. I’m usually a beach and sunshine kind of girl, but I just added a surprising entry to my bucket list: take a Norway cruise to see the Northern Lights. Yes, I’m ready to trade my swimsuit and suntan lotion for a warm jacket and gloves for the opportunity to experience the Aurora Borealis! That sounds like a real adventure!

Northern Lights

I know, traveling TO the snow in the winter sounds counter intuitive. But I’m convinced this will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Hurtigruten offers several voyages to view the magical Northern Lights, visit Norwegian coastal villages and partake in polar adventures. A Norway Cruise from Hurtigruten is perfect for those who yearn for unique, natural and active experiences, so it’s right up our alley. (Plus we LOVE cruising!)

And here’s an interesting fact — as well as a reason to book soon — NASA has predicted that this year is on the peak of an 11-year cycle, making it ideal for viewing one of nature’s greatest shows on earth. The images of the Northern Lights make me think of Psalm 19:1.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

I don’t think there is any greater evidence of God’s handiwork than this!

Northern Lights

Seeing the lights is only one of the things that makes Hurtigruten voyages enticing. I can’t wait to see the snowy Norwegian shoreline, take a snowmobile trip in the polar night, witness icebergs towering out of the water, and simply enjoy the culture and the people of Norway. Because my maternal grandmother’s ancestors are from Norway, I’ve always been fascinated by the country and its people.

Other highlights of a Norway cruise include exploring Trondheim, the country’s former capital, and visiting the world’s first ice gallery in the Lofoten Islands. And then there’s this interesting opportunity: sleep in the Kirkenes Snow Hotel with its magnificent suites made from snow and ice! I’m not sure I’d spend the night, but I definitely want to check it out and perhaps enjoy a toddie in a glass made of ice!

“Each Hurtigruten departure is a purposeful voyage providing a transportation lifeline between cities and villages while exploring stunning fjords and UNESCO World Heritage sites along the more than 1,000 miles of Norway’s pristine coastal waterway. This mixture of local encounters, spectacular scenery and utterly unique shore activities provides an unmatched opportunity to experience and interact with the beauty and charm of Norway and its people. Hurtigruten’s 11 ships depart almost every day of the year, from 34 ports along the Norwegian Coast.” Sounds divine, doesn’t it?

Thankfully, Hurtigruten is currently offering savings of up to 30%. Perfect timing for marking it off this girl’s bucket list!

So… what’s on your bucket list?
