Could You Have a (Spiritual) Cone on Your Head?

Could YOU Have a (Spiritual) Cone on Your Head? I sure have before!

Poor Pumbaa. He had surgery to remove a benign tumor two weeks ago. He has hobbled around on his bandaged leg for days, and he has been heeling quite nicely. Yesterday, I took him to the vet to have his staples removed. The little guy had staples all the way from his paw to his shoulders.

When they brought him out to me, I was quite shocked to see a giant cone on his head! They told me that he wouldn’t quit biting his wound and that it will not finish healing if he continues.

Poor puppy… He’s miserable! Yet the solution to his problem is so simple. DON’T BITE YOUR WOUND, AND I WILL TOSS THE TORTURE DEVICE! But he just doesn’t get it. Every time I remove the cone, he’s all over his leg. So instead of freedom, he has to wander around with this awkward and distracting cone, bumping into things, unable to function, play or enjoy the simplest things in life.

Though the answer is so obvious to me, he is apparently completely incapable of understanding how easily his predicament could be fixed! But oftentimes, I, too, behave like Pumbaa. God gently says, “Andrea… the answer is over here. It’s simple.” But I’m so focused on the problem that I completely miss that God has the solution. And so I keep wandering, clumsily bumping into things and being miserable.

Here’s what God’s word has to say about this dilemma in Proverbs 2:

“LISTEN CAREFULLY to WISDOM; set your mind on UNDERSTANDING… Then you will UNDERSTAND what is honest and fair and what is the good and RIGHT THING TO DO. WISDOM will come into your mind and KNOWLEDGE will be pleasing to you. GOOD SENSE will protect you; UNDERSTANDING will GUARD YOU.”

So, can you relate to Pumbaa’s predicament? I know I can! Let’s remember the answer (FREEDOM!) is close at hand. The Lord with His infinite wisdom is ALWAYS there to help make sense of our problem if we just open our spiritual eyes and ears — seeking His wisdom — instead of dwelling on that cone.

If you are interested in learning more about hearing God’s voice, I urge you to by God Guides by Mary Geegh. It’s amazingly insightful! And it’s a super quick read.

God bless your day!

  1. Poor little Pumba….I feel so sorry for him….don’t the make a smaller one for little guys like him? I love those little guys so much, and yes, they just don’t get it about not licking the wounds. What is that orangish red stuff that looks like dreadlocks hanging down behind the cone?

  2. It’s just the piece of fabric/ribbon that’s tying it together. 🙂

  3. This brings back memories of our sweet little fur baby and his cone. I remember how frustrated he was when he was wearing his. Please scratch sweet little Pumba behind the ear for me. God Bless. P.S. thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop

    • Thanks for stopping by, Katherine! Love the blog hop. Yes, Pumbaa is getting lots of scratching and loving.
